THINKFAST PROGRAM MEDIA OBSERVATION OPPORTUNITY AT SMYRNA HIGH
Smyrna, Tenn. – There are currently over a quarter million license holders under the age of twenty in Tennessee. During this important time where driving habits are formed, Nissan North America and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office are partnering together to bring safe driving education to high schools across the state. Through the ThinkFast Interactive program, students are able to learn about traffic safety issues such as impaired driving and distracted driving in an entertaining environment.
Nearly nine percent of the fatalities that occurred on Tennessee roads last year involved a teen driver. In 2015, drivers under the age of twenty were involved in over 31,000 crashes. Recent data has shown that on a national level, teens are far less likely to buckle up than adults. Observed seat belt use among teens and young adults stood at 76 percent in 2006 – the lowest of any age group. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 14-18 year olds in the US.
Representatives from Nissan North America and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office will be on-site to discuss the partnership, the ThinkFast program, and the importance of teen driver safety in Tennessee.
