Tennessee Highway Safety Office Launches Operation Safe Sumner to Prevent Fatal Crashes
24 Lives Were Lost on Sumner County Roadways in 2016
SUMNER COUNTY – On Thursday, March 9, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) will be joined by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the Gallatin Police Department, the Hendersonville Police Department, and other law enforcement partners for a press event at Volunteer State Community College to launch “Operation Safe Sumner,” which will run from Thursday, March 9, to Monday, March 13.
Last year, Sumner County experienced an alarming spike in traffic fatalities, from 10 in 2015 to 24 in 2016. In an effort to prevent future crashes, injuries, and fatalities, the THSO will partner with the THP and local law enforcement to increase speed awareness and seatbelt usage. Speed trailers will be placed along dangerous stretches of roadways throughout Sumner County to encourage motorists to slow down and buckle up.
