Tennessee Highway Safety Office Announces Governor’s Proclamation for Tennessee “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day”
NASHVILLE – On Thursday, October 5, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) will join the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Walk Bike Nashville, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and other traffic safety partners for a press event to announce Governor Bill Haslam’s proclamation for Tennessee “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day.” This nationwide initiative encourages all roadway users to exercise caution and obey traffic laws in order to achieve one day with zero traffic fatalities.
“It doesn’t matter who you are,” said THSO Director Vic Donoho. “Everyone is a roadway user. At some point in life, we are all teen drivers, senior drivers, vehicle passengers, bicyclists, or pedestrians. We all play a role, so let’s work together to put the brakes on fatalities.”According to the Tennessee Integrated Traffic Analysis Network (TITAN), there have been 770 traffic fatalities statewide in 2017.
