Governor’s Highway Safety Office Announces Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

Tennessee – Kendell Poole, Director of the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office, will join Colonel Tracy Trott of the Tennessee Highway Patrol to announce May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The event will take place in conjunction with the Music City Police Motorcycle Skills and Training Competition on Friday, May 1st at 10:00 a.m. at Opry Mills.

 

Over the last decade, motorcycle fatalities have increased nearly twenty-five percent in Tennessee. The Governors Highway Safety Association indicates that motorcycle deaths remain one of the few areas in highway safety where progress is not being made. In 2014, there were 2,710 crashes involving a motorcycle across the state.

 

Motorcyclists will be out in force as the weather gets warmer, which is why May is the perfect month for Motorcycle Safety Awareness. Drivers all need to be more aware of motorcyclists in order to save lives. During May, and all year long, one important safety message remains the same: Share the responsibility of keeping our roads safe—always share the road.
