It is closely associated with and funded through the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which is wholly supported by automobile insurers.
Institute of Transportation Engineers The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international educational and scientific association of transportation and traffic engineers, transportation planners and other professionals who are responsible for meeting mobility and safety needs. The Institute facilitates the application of technology and scientific principles to research, planning, functional design, implementation, operation, policy
development and management for any mode of transportation by promoting professional development of members, supporting and encouraging education, stimulating research, developing public awareness, and exchanging professional information; and by maintaining a central point of reference and action.

It is dedicated to reducing the losses - deaths, injuries, and property damage - resulting from crashes on the nation's highways. The Institute is wholly supported by automobile insurers.

Operation Lifesaver is a nonprofit, nationwide public education program designed to eliminate collisions, deaths, and injuries at highway-rail intersections and on railroad rights-of-way. Safe Ride News Publications helps to save lives and prevent injury to children in traffic. We do this primarily by developing accurate and up-to-date information on injury prevention for professionals, advocates, and parents. They advocate for improved standards, laws, and programs related to childhood injury prevention by supporting and collaborating with other organizations and agencies working in this field.
 
Southeastern Transportation Center
The Southeastern Transportation Center (STC), a consortium of 10 universities from five states in DOT region IV, is chartered under the theme “Transportation Safety.” The University of Tennessee, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina -Chapel Hill, North Carolina State, the University of Florida, the University of Kentucky, the University of South Florida and Vanderbilt are the universities that comprise the STC.
