The Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is pleased to announce an Occupant Protection Training Course. The course will be hosted by the Metro Nashville Police Department and taught by instructors from the Traffic Safety Institute (TSI). It will be held October 18 - 20, 2011 at the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Hermitage Precinct.

This course highlights best practices and knowledge on how to build and operate effective countermeasures in the occupant protection program area. [ more... ]

  The Tennessee Department of Transportation Governor’s Highway Safety Office announced the winners of the 7th Annual Law Enforcement Challenge at an event on Friday, September 9. This year’s winners included not only state awards but also, 11 national awards. The Law Enforcement Challenge is presented to law enforcement agencies statewide by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office.

“From child passenger safety to impaired driving campaigns, police agencies across Tennessee utilize a wide variety of programs to increase safety in their communities” said Governor Bill Haslam. “Their dedication saves countless lives each year and certainly deserves this recognition both by the state and nation.”

A total of fifty-four awards were presented during a ceremony Friday, September 9. Nationally, Tennessee agencies won eleven awards including five top honors. Regardless of type or size, all of the agencies that applied were considered for these awards.
